The richest man in India and second richest man in Asia Mukesh Ambani! Yes, Mukesh Ambani has touched the second position after he overtook Hong Kong realty magnet Li Ka-shing to emerge as Asia’s second-richest man, thanks to spectacular launch of Jio, 4G telecom venture of Reliance Industries. According to the Bloomberg’s Billionaire Index, Ambani’s net worth has risen to USD 34.8 billion (around Rs 2.2 lakh crore), making him the 19th richest person in the world, up from 29 at the end of 2016.
The latest boost to RIL share came with the launch of Jio Phone, an effectively free homegrown 4G device, which has high-end features like voice assistant and supports 22 languages, last month. Once Jio Phone hits the market on August 15, a large section of about 50 crore 2G phone users is likely to move to Jio network. Ambani will not stop there. He has more plans and is currently working on them. In the near future, there will be more products in the market, from Reliance Jio like DTH, broadband, Jio Money and many more.
RIL has invested more than $31 billion in telecom business, considered to be passion of Mukesh Ambani while about 90 per cent of Reliance revenues continue to come from its refining and petrochemicals business.
