'Redistribution Is Not Wealth Creation': Harsh Goenka Warns Over Slippery Slope Of Freebies

Freebies also reduce work incentives, he added. "Redistribution is not wealth creation; taking from the rich to give to the poor only creates a fleeting sense of equity but stifles the drive for enterprise,' he said.

Harsh Goenka, the chairman of RPG Enterprises, argued against the freebie culture in Indian politics, claiming that wealth is created rather than divided and that redistribution does not create wealth. He also claimed that freebies reduce work incentives.

According to Goenka, the practice of giving away things like cooking gas, electricity, and rations is tainting Indian politics. Despite its seeming nobleness, he said, it is a slippery slope.

Freebies also reduce work incentives, he added. "Redistribution is not wealth creation; Taking from the rich to give to the poor only creates a fleeting sense of equity but stifles the drive for enterprise,' he said. "Recipients lose motivation to work when benefits are distributed without effort, and taxpayers become discouraged,' Goenka continued.

Freebies are financially unsustainable

He claimed that freebies are unsustainable financially because they only result in future increases in deficits, debt, or taxes. 'Wealth Is Grown, Not Divided; Productivity, not populism, is the source of prosperity,' Goenka continued.

The work ethic and ambition that propel economic advancement are lost in a society that relies heavily on free benefits.

Goenka reacted after congress announced a scheme

Goenka's tweet follows the Congress's announcement that, should they win the Delhi Assembly elections, women in the city would receive Rs 2,500 per month. In response to the AAP's Mahila Samman Yojana, which offers women in the nation's capital Rs 2,100 if they are elected to power, the Congress announced the Pyari Didi Yojana.

Senior Congress leader and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar claimed that under several programs, women in Karnataka receive free rations, free bus transportation, and Rs 2,000. He claimed that 1.2 crore people would benefit from the Rs 3,000 they are also providing to jobless individuals.

Delhi Election dates

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, announcing the Delhi assembly poll dates, spoke on freebies too. 'Freebies for one can be entitlement for someone else, there is a very thin line between two thoughts,' he said.

Voting for 70 assembly seats in Delhi will take place in a single phase on February 5, and the votes will be counted on February 8
