New Delhi: POWERGRID has secured a key project tied to India’s renewable energy expansion.
POWERGRID has emerged as the successful bidder for an inter-state transmission system project focused on strengthening infrastructure at Tumkur-II. The project supports the integration of an additional 2.7 GW of renewable energy capacity, highlighting its role in enabling clean energy growth.
The company received the Letter of Intent dated March 30, 2026, on April 01, 2026. This confirms its selection under the tariff-based competitive bidding process, a standard route for awarding large transmission projects.
The project involves setting up a 400 kV double circuit transmission line across Karnataka. It also includes augmentation work such as installation of interconnecting transformers and line bays at the Tumkur-II pooling station.
The project will be executed on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer basis. This structure allows POWERGRID to develop and operate the asset before eventual transfer, aligning with its established transmission business model. The project win reinforces POWERGRID’s position in expanding transmission infrastructure critical for integrating renewable energy into India’s grid.
