The Maharashtra government has announced plans to construct one lakh affordable homes across the state through MHADA over the next two years. Deputy Chief Minister and Housing Minister Eknath Shinde stated that a new state housing policy will soon be introduced to support this initiative.

At a computerized lottery event for 3,662 homes under various housing schemes in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, PMRDA, and Solapur, Shinde emphasized that Mumbai Metropolitan Region has been identified as a key growth hub. "This region is expected to attract industries, IT companies, and service sector enterprises, driving housing demand. To meet this need, MHADA aims to develop eight lakh homes, including rental housing and hostels for working professionals, students, and senior citizens. Given Mumbai’s space constraints, cluster redevelopment will be prioritized for eco-friendly housing," he said.

The Pune Board’s housing lottery received an overwhelming response with 71,642 applications for 3,662 homes, reflecting strong public confidence in MHADA’s transparent digital allocation system. Deputy CM Ajit Pawar urged citizens to avoid intermediaries, emphasizing that MHADA does not authorize agents for home allocation.

In the last 18 months, MHADA has successfully allotted 30,000 homes through 13 lotteries. The government is also resolving stalled housing projects and accelerating slum redevelopment in Mumbai, Pune, and Thane, with similar initiatives under consideration for Pune.

The event, held via video conferencing from the Thane District Collector’s Office, was attended by key officials, including Dr. Pankaj Bhoyar, Minister of State for Housing, and Shivajirao Adhalrao Patil, Chairman, MHADA Pune Board. The proceedings were streamed live on MHADA’s social media platforms, with the list of successful applicants available at housing.mhada.gov.in.
