Mumbai: Madhur Bajaj, former Vice Chairman of Bajaj Auto and a respected figure in India’s corporate and philanthropic circles, passed away on Friday morning in Mumbai at the age of 73. His death marks the end of a significant chapter in the legacy of the Bajaj Group.

Bajaj, born on August 19, 1952, had been associated with several companies within the group, most recently serving as director of Bajaj Finserv Limited and Bajaj Electricals Limited. In January 2024, he had stepped down from his position as Vice Chairman of Bajaj Auto due to health concerns.

Educated at Doon School in Dehradun, he pursued a B.Com from Sydenham College, Mumbai, in 1973, and later completed an MBA from the International Institute of Management Development (IMD) in Lausanne, Switzerland, in 1979. His academic foundation laid the groundwork for a distinguished career in business leadership.

Madhur Bajaj was deeply involved in industry and social initiatives. He served as the former President of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA). He was also a National Council Member of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

He was recognized for his contributions with the 'Vikas Rattan' Award by the International Friendship Society of India.

Beyond business, Bajaj held a deep commitment to youth development and social progress. India's International Movement to Unite Nations (I.I.M.U.N.) paid tribute, acknowledging his role as a founding advisor since 2017. “His humility, wisdom, and quiet leadership left an indelible mark,” the organization noted, highlighting his support in nurturing young leaders.

Madhur Bajaj leaves behind a legacy of ethical leadership, commitment to industry, and philanthropic values. His contributions to both the corporate sector and civil society will be remembered and cherished.
