E-tickets can be conveniently cancelled online via the official IRCTC website both before and after chart preparation. Cancellations are not allowed at face-to-face Railway Counters. Users can simply select their booked ticket and initiate cancellation in a few clicks. Users can also, either partially or fully, cancel their train tickets through the IRCTC website and app.

Cancellation Fees

Cancellation fees vary depending on how early the ticket is cancelled before departure. For example, cancelling more than 48 hours ahead has flat charges, while charges increase in case passengers cancel tickets closer to the train’s departure time.

What Are the Rates?

If a confirmed ticket is cancelled more than 48 hrs before the scheduled departure of the train, flat cancellation charges shall be deducted at the rate of Rs.240/- for AC First Class/Executive Class, Rs.200/- for AC 2 Tier/First Class, Rs. 180 for AC 3 Tier/AC Chair car/ AC 3 Economy, Rs.120/- for Sleeper Class and Rs.60/- for Second Class.

If a confirmed ticket is cancelled within 48 hrs and up to 12 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, cancellation charges shall be 25% of the fare, subject to the minimum flat rate mentioned in the above clause.

If A Ticket Is Cancelled Less Than 12 Hours

If the tickets are cancelled less than 12 hours and up to four hours before the scheduled departure of the train or up to chart preparation, whichever is earlier, 50% of the fare paid, subject to the minimum cancellation charges, will be the amount for the cancellation fees.

Are E-Ticket Cancellations Allowed Online?

Once the train’s chart is prepared, e-ticket cancellations are no longer allowed online. However, passengers can file a Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR) to claim refunds, in case they are eligible. Note that if one does not file the TDS within the specified time, generally 4 hours before the scheduled train departure time, no refund will be processed.

Ticket Cancellation Charges Booked Under Tatkal Category?

In case you have a confirmed Tatkaal ticket, one will not receive any refunds. However, waitlisted or RAC tickets are eligible for refunds. In case a wait-listed ticket is cancelled online, the refund of fare shall be made after deducting the cancellation charge of Rs 20/- +GST per passenger, if the ticket is cancelled online up to four hours before the scheduled departure of the Train. Partial cancellation of Tatkal e-tickets is allowed.

Refund If Train Is Cancelled?

If the train is marked as "CANCELLED" in PRS due to breaches, floods, accidents, etc. full refund is permissible in case the ticket is cancelled within three days of the scheduled departure of the train. In case of e-tickets, such cancellations can be done by the customer through the Internet.
