Aadhaar Update Rules: The UIDAI allows limited updates to Aadhaar details like name, date of birth, gender, and unlimited updates for address and mobile number. Each change requires valid documents. It’s crucial to follow the update rules carefully and double-check entries to avoid permanent errors or limitations in future corrections.

Name Change – Only Twice Allowed

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) allows name changes in Aadhaar card only two times. This is helpful especially for women who may want to change their surname after marriage. You must provide valid proof for name changes.

Date of Birth – Only Once

You can correct your date of birth only once in Aadhaar. This is allowed in case there is a mistake or error. After that, no further changes are allowed. You need to provide official birth proof for the correction.

Address – No Limit

You can change or update your address in Aadhaar card any number of times. This is useful when you move to a new home or city. You can update your address online or by visiting an Aadhaar center.

Valid documents like rent agreement, electricity bill, or water bill are required.

Gender – Only Once

If your gender is wrongly mentioned in Aadhaar, you can update it only once. Be sure to double-check before submitting because you won’t get a second chance.

Mobile Number – Unlimited Updates

Your Aadhaar-linked mobile number is important for OTP-based services. You can change your mobile number as many times as needed. There is no limit set by UIDAI for mobile number updates. This can be done at an Aadhaar center.

Documents Required

For all updates, valid documents are required. You may need original copies for verification. Changes can be made online (in some cases) or offline by visiting the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra.

Always be careful while updating details. Double-check before final submission. Follow UIDAI rules to avoid future issues.
