New Delhi : The government revised upwards foodgrain production estimates by over 1 million tonne to a record 264.38 MT for the 2013-14 crop year due to robust southwest monsoon rainfall,” the Agriculture Ministry said while releasing the 3rd Advance Estimates of crop production in the 2013-14 crop year (July-June). In the second advance estimates, released in February, the total foodgrain production was pegged at 263.2 MT.
As per the latest estimate, rice and wheat production is expected to be all-time high at 106.29 MT and 95.85 MT respectively, this year. In the previous crop year, rice and wheat production stood at 105.24 MT and wheat at 93.51 MT.
A record 19.57 MT pulses are expected to be harvested in 2013-14, as against 18.34 MT in the previous year. Among pulses, tur and gram output are set to be a record at 3.38 MT and gram 9.93 MT, respectively, this year.
