Indians have often taken pride in the rise of the Indian profile at Silicon Valley. Major tech companies in the United States have a significant presence of Indian or Indian-origin employees.

Apple Fires Indian-Origin Employees

Many have scaled different heights to reach the top administration of these companies.

Recently, a report emerged that put some heads down in shame. iPhone-maker and world's largest company, Apple has reportedly fired Indian-origin employees for missing donation plans for their own personal gains. These employees, many of them of Indian-origin, redirected grant funds to themselves.

Sucheta Dalal Reacts

Senior journalist Sucheta Dalal known for her role in exposing the Harshad Mehta scam took to X to react to the story.

In her post, Dalal said, "Corruption is a shameful way of life today. Why!🤦🏻‍♀"

What Was The Scheme?

Under the initiative, Apple matches employee contributions to eligible charities with a same amount that the employee donates.

Some US-based employees, including a few with ties to the Indian community, allegedly made donation records and made arrangements for the money to be returned to themselves while working with particular charitable organisations.

As per a Times of India report, The Telugu Association of North America (TANA) is said to be under the radar. The US FBI is scrutinising them for accessing and procuring grants from various corporations.

Netizens React

Another used despondently said, "We are in Kalyug. We are in an era where you become a thief only if you're caught stealing, till then you are a smart guy! The real question is why did they feel the need to steal?what were their circumstances?"

"This is how most ppl are raised today. Right from their childhood, they see this as way of life. Hardly any work is done w/o greasing the palms. If you are weak (like a stuck homebuyer against a builder), the entire system aligns with powerful. This is what people see since beginning!," added another X user.

One user observed, "Dishonesty runs in the blood of Indian people. Forget government officers, even common people don't hesitate to cheat and scam others."

Another exasperated user replied and said, "What a Shame !! Unfortunately true and this is what we are known for Globally. With Morals at the wayside and when Corruption is an acceptable way of life it’s the beginning of the end !!"
