A six-month-old girl, her grandmother and aunt died after a fire broke out at a motorcycle parts shop and house in Bakhtiyarpur near Patna. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Patna: A six-month-old child, her maternal grandmother, and maternal aunt were killed when fire broke out at a shop in Bakhtiyarpur near Patna.

Three killed in fire incident

Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Barh, Abhishek Srivastava said, "A fire broke out at the shop, and we made every effort to douse it. Three people were rescued from the site and taken to hospital, where they were declared dead. Three others were safely rescued. The cause of the fire is not known at present."

However, sources claimed that fire started during a Havan ritual.

The parents of the six-month-old girl saved their lives by jumping from the roof, but could not save their daughter. The child's mother also fractured her leg in the incident and has been admitted to a hospital for treatment.

Fire engulfs shop and house

The tragic incident occurred in Bakhtiyarpur, around 50 km from Bihar's capital Patna, on Saturday late evening.

The fire suddenly broke out at a motorcycle parts shop and the adjoining house located along the Old Bypass. The fire spread so rapidly that those inside the house had little time to escape.

According to reports, the family of shop owner Pankaj Kumar live in the house behind the shop. The fire quickly intensified and engulfed the entire building.

Family members lose lives

The flames were so intense that those inside the house did not get enough time to escape. In the tragedy, 45-year-old Reema Devi, her 70-year-old mother-in-law Geeta Devi and six-month-old Sundari Kumari were burnt alive. Reema Devi was the wife of shop owner Pankaj Kumar, while Geeta Devi was his mother.

According to reports, the child had come to Bakhtiyarpur with her parents. The girl's mother, Moni Kumari, and father, Shivam Kumar, residents of Hisua in Nawada, reached the roof while trying to escape the fire and jumped to the ground. Moni Kumari fractured her leg in the process. Both were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Rescue operations underway

As soon as the incident was reported, local police and fire brigade teams reached the spot. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control after considerable effort.
