Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh, the central state of India, has been witnessing rapid development across various sectors.

However, concerns over basic facilities such as well-paved roads, clean drinking water, healthcare and primary education continue to emerge from different parts of the state.

Recently, a video showing a ‘hut-turned-school’ surfaced on social media from Mandla district, highlighting the condition of rural education infrastructure.

The video shows young children in uniforms sitting inside a hut, reportedly a Government Primary School located in Singhanpuri tehsil of Mandla district, situated between agricultural fields.

The structure, which was expected to be a proper school building, has been reduced to a mud house with a gable roof covered with tarpaulin.

Its location amid fields has also raised concerns over the possibility of poisonous reptiles entering the premises, especially during the monsoon.

Watch the video here:

The narrator in the video said students from Classes 1 to 5 study together in the same room.

Taking a sarcastic tone, he said, “Class 1 se 5 tak ke bacche ek sath is school mein baithte hain. Tez pani aa jaye, pani ka bhi maza lete hain, tez hawa aa jaye uska bhi maza lete hain…Yahan peeche khet laga hua hai, yahan se sanp bicchu aa jayenge...haan theek hai…arre jo baccha survive kar gaya wo baccha duniye mein koi bhi competition jhel sakta hai…uski taiyaari karwai jaa rahi hai humari sarkaare ke dwara.”

“(Children from Classes 1 to 5 sit together in this school. If heavy rain comes, they enjoy the rain; if strong winds blow, they enjoy that too. There are fields behind the school, from where snakes and scorpions could come. Yes, that is fine. A child who survives here can face any competition in the world. Our governments are preparing them for that).”

The video has brought attention to the challenges faced by children in rural areas and raised questions over the availability of basic educational facilities despite government efforts and budgetary allocations.

MP education budget 2026-27

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh’s 2026-27 budget allocated ₹52,917 crore for education, sports, arts and culture, a 13% increase from the previous year.

The education promised focus on strengthening schools through infrastructure upgrades, recruitment of 15k teachers and expansion of student welfare schemes.

The Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan received ₹5,649 crore, while 799 educational institutes are to undergo modernisation.

However, some corners of the state remain completely unnoticed.
