Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): A case of self-immolation was reported from Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district where a 30-year-old man set himself on fire outside the Hazira police station on Thursday.
According to information, the man was identified as Akash, a resident of Birla Nagar Line No. 1, and the incident took place around 12:30 pm.
He was reportedly upset due to an ongoing property dispute with his sister and brother-in-law. They allegedly wanted to sell the family house, however, Akash strongly opposed it.
Later, the disagreement escalated and the sister and brother-in-law filed a police complaint against him at Hazira police station.
Akash in critical condition
Upset over the complaint, Akash went to the police station, poured petrol on himself, and set himself on fire. Police officers present at the scene acted quickly and called an ambulance. He was rushed to the burn unit at Jayarogya Hospital. His condition remains critical.
Akash’s wife, Aarti, said that her husband had gone to the police station to file a complaint, as they were being harassed by the sister and brother-in-law for the past few days. She claimed their concerns were not being heard, and the couple had even taken over their house.
At present, both sides have filed cross FIRs, and legal action has been taken. Police have recovered CCTV footage which shows Akash setting himself on fire inside the police station premises. He is currently under treatment, and his condition continues to be serious.
