Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Tiger "Chhota Bhim," aged around 10 years, died on Sunday at Van Vihar National Park due to heart failure while undergoing treatment. The tiger was rescued from Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in November after being found with a wire noose wrapped tightly around its neck.
At the time of its rescue, the tiger's neck had developed deep wounds from the noose. Forest officials from Bandhavgarh had said that the wire trap had been set by poachers, likely to catch herbivores, but "Chhota Bhim" became ensnared instead. In an attempt to free itself, the tiger broke the wire noose and managed to escape into the jungle.
It took several days for the rescue team to track and capture the injured animal, which had been moving around the dense forest. Once in Van Vihar, the tiger was provided with immediate medical care. However, despite the treatment, its condition deteriorated, and it ultimately succumbed to heart failure.
Last rites
After autopsy, tiger "Chhota Bhim" was cremated as per the guidelines of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA). Veterinary doctors from Van Vihar National Park said that the tiger had shown significant recovery during its treatment. However, despite the progress, it suffered a fatal heart attack on Sunday, which led to its death.
