Bhopal/Rewa (Madhya Pradesh): The Central Zoo Authority (CZA) has approved a proposal to establish a white tiger breeding centre in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district.

The plan was announced by Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla on Saturday.

The project, to be set up in Govindgarh, aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for environmental protection and sustainable development. Shukla stated that the MP government is committed to making the state a model for wildlife conservation.

"This is a significant achievement in our efforts to protect and increase the white tiger population," he said. The facility will ensure the safety of these rare tigers while boosting their numbers. Madhya Pradesh already leads the country in tiger population, and this initiative will further strengthen its reputation as a leader in wildlife conservation.

The breeding centre in Rewa holds special significance, as the district is historically linked to white tigers. The first white tiger in India, Mohan, was discovered in Rewa in 1951. The new project aims to continue this legacy while contributing to biodiversity and conservation efforts. With the CZA's approval, the state government is expected to move forward with detailed planning and implementation.
