Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A week after the application process for the Madhya Pradesh Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) began, not a single in-service teacher has reportedly filled the examination form.
Teacher organisations have urged teachers to boycott the process until their demands and concerns are addressed. The last date to apply is September 4.
The teachers are primarily seeking clarity on who among existing teachers is required to appear for TET.
The issue follows the Supreme Court’s September 2025 ruling making TET qualification mandatory for in-service teachers as well.
The court rejected review pleas filed by states and teacher organisations in May 2026, holding that the RTE framework requires existing teachers to acquire the prescribed qualification within the stipulated period.
The MP government, however, has sought relief for around 70,000 teachers appointed between 2005 and 2009, arguing that eligibility examinations conducted in 2005 and 2008 should be treated as equivalent to TET.
TET needs to be conducted on lines of CM Rise
Teachers Association acting president Upendra Kaushal said the department should conduct an examination at the departmental level on the lines of CM Rise-related examinations, without charging teachers an application or examination fee.
“Teachers are confused about who has to take the exam and who is exempt,” he said. Teachers have objected to the difficulty level, saying it does not match earlier assurances that the examination would be based on Classes 1-8.
They have also raised concerns over the online examination, examination fee, leave on the exam day, and travel allowance.
Why teachers are not filing the form
Teachers are also demanding clarity over whether those who have already cleared TET/CTET will have to appear again, and whether teachers appointed through different recruitment schemes between 1988 and 1998 fall under the requirement.
Syllabus is another major concern. For Varg-3, the 150-question paper includes 30 questions each from Child Development and Pedagogy, Language-I, Language-II, Mathematics and Environmental Studies.
For Varg-2, 150 questions include Language-I, Language-II, General Knowledge/Current Affairs/Reasoning and Numerical Ability, and Pedagogy, while the remaining 120 questions are based on the subject they did graduation.
Teachers plan Delhi protest
Adhyapak Shikshak Sangh president Jagdish Yadav said teachers have not filled the form and they will not do so, they were asked to prepare for a protest in Delhi on August 30.
Delegation meets minister, DPI commissioner
The Adhyapak Shikshak Sanyukt Morcha met school education minister and DPI commissioner Abhishek Singh on Monday.
The minister said he would discuss the demands with the department and the Employees Selection Board and seek a legally valid solution.

School education minister Uday Pratap Singh said the commissioner of public instruction has approached the Supreme Court seeking relief for teachers who cleared examinations in 2005 and 2008.
The government will decide their TET eligibility after the court’s verdict. The delegation’s demand to change the TET subjects and syllabus was rejected.
It also sought scribes for eligible teachers. Commissioner Abhishek Singh assured solutions and said the demand for more exam centres would be conveyed to the Employees Selection Board.
