Narmadapuram (Madhya Pradesh): Officials on panchayat poll duty were thrashed at a polling booth by a local BJP leader and his supporters whereas two policemen who tried to intervene were also manhandled by them in Seoni Malwa of Narmadapuram district on Friday night.
According to sources, Varun Patel Raghuvanshi, BJP Mandal (rural) president along with his half-a-dozen supporters armed with weapons attacked presiding officers Ratnesh Tiwari, Gaurav Prajapati and other poll staff when they refused to their demand of recounting after BJP leader Varun’s sister-in-law was defeated in Janpad panchayat polls.
They also snatched ballot boxes and tore the ballot papers. The police personnel present on the spot at the time of incident also intervened and the goon manhandled them. In the process, inspector Ramprasad Kavreti’s uniform was torn and a constable Atul Vishwakarma got injured.
On learning about the incident, collector Neeraj Kumar Singh along with Superintendent of Police Dr Gurukaran Singh reached Bankabedi of Seoni Malwa around 2 am and later an FIR was registered against 15 persons including local BJP leader Varun Patel and his supporters under Sections 147,148,294,506,353,332,186,204 of the IPC and SC/ST Act. Two persons have been detained by the police.
