Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Raisen is going to become next destination of urban tigers after Bhopal. The reason is that the proposal to rescue the tigress moving around historical Raisen fort has been shelved.
Instead, the forest department is considering to fence the fort with help of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The fort remains closed for people due to presence of tigress.
The visitors can go up to Shiva temple under the watchful eyes of forest department officials while the remaining part of Raisen fort remains closed for tourists. Once the fencing is done, Raisen fort will be opened for tourists.
“The rescue proposal has been dropped. If the tigress is rescued, the other three tigers/ tigresses
moving in the lower areas of the fort will come to occupy the fort area.
Sooner or later, people of Raisen have to adjust with the tigers akin to Bhopal urban tigers,” said Raisen district forest officer Prathibha Shukla.
Sources in forest department said that Raisen fort area and its adjoining regions were full of prey base and water sources. Along with this, there are cliffs in the forest area.
All these things make a suitable place for tiger habitat. To ensure that there is no man animal conflict, forest department has deployed around two dozen personnel who do duty in three shifts.
