Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): The Raja Mansingh Tomar Music and Arts University in Gwalior has once again found itself in controversy as students staged a protest against a professor, accusing him of harassment. The professor in question, Sajan Kurian Mathew, has been alleged to have made inappropriate remarks and harassed female students, including making late-night WhatsApp calls.
The protesting students claimed that Professor Mathew had been pressuring them for unethical activities and making unwanted advances. However, the professor has outrightly denied the allegations, calling them baseless and fabricated.
According to information, on Wednesday, a group of agitated students, along with members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), stormed into the chamber of Vice-Chancellor Acharya Smita Sahasrabuddhe and staged a sit-in protest, demanding strict action against the accused professor. The protest lasted for over three hours.
Vice-Chancellor Smita Sahasrabuddhe stated that action would only be taken if the students submitted a written complaint. Despite the seriousness of the accusations, no immediate steps have been taken against the professor.
Repeated Allegations
Notably, this is not the first time such allegations have surfaced at Raja Mansingh Tomar University. Previously, four professors were accused of sexual harassment, yet no stringent action was taken. The repeated incidents raise concerns about the university’s handling of such cases, as staff members continue to face accusations of misconduct without significant consequences.
