MP December 12 Weather Updates: Orange Alert For Cold Days, Cold Waves In Indore Rajgarh; Severe Cold To Grip Bhopal, Satna & 31 Others

Cold wave alerts have been issued for Dhar, Barwani, Khandwa, Narmadapuram, Agar-Malwa, Guna, Sagar, Shahdol, Jabalpur, and Seoni.

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Severe cold has gripped the central state strongly in the second week of December. On Thursday, the chills are expected to intensify and 33 districts are expected to witness a cold wave.

On the other hand, the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for cold days and cold wave conditions in Indore and Rajgarh.

Districts on alert on Thursday

Cold day conditions are expected in Bhopal, Vidisha, Raisen, Sehore, Betul, Harda, Niwari, Dewas, Shajapur, Ujjain, Ratlam, Neemuch, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Panna, Satna, Rewa, Mauganj, and Umaria. 

Cold wave alerts have been issued for Dhar, Barwani, Khandwa, Narmadapuram, Agar-Malwa, Guna, Sagar, Shahdol, Jabalpur, and Seoni.

At present, as many as 21 districts, including Bhopal and Indore, are experiencing cold day conditions where both day and night temperatures remain low. 

What do meteorologists say?

According to IMD Bhopal’s senior scientist Divya E. Surendran, in northern India is causing icy winds to rush into Madhya Pradesh, resulting in severe cold across most regions.

At present, jet stream winds at a height of 12.6 km in northwestern India are blowing at a speed of 278 km/h, contributing to the chills. An active western disturbance is melting snow in the north, which is significantly cooling the air further.

Nighttime temp rises in Pachmarhi

In Pachmarhi, temperatures have dropped below 3°C, with a slight increase over the past 24 hours from 1.8°C to 3.4°C.

Pachmarhi recorded a low of 1.8°C, with temperatures plunging by 1.7°C overnight on Tuesday-Wednesday. The cold caused frost to form on dew drops. Major cities like Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Ujjain, and Jabalpur also reported sharp dips in temperatures.

Minimum temperatures recorded on Thursday:

Bhopal: 6.9°C

Indore: 8.6°C

Gwalior: 6°C

Ujjain: 7.5°C
