Morena (Madhya Pradesh): Access to clean drinking water is a luxury but residents in Rampur town belong to that set of people who don’t have this luxury.

The locals living in the region claim that they have been facing water woes since the last 20 years despite protests and promises from local officials in return. On April 14, renowned water conservationist Rajendra Singh urged local youths at Gandhi Seva Ashram to conserve water and rainwater, emphasising that disciplined usage is crucial for sustainability.

Despite multiple demonstrations and assurances from public representatives, villagers have not seen any tangible improvements.

The administration's approval of Rs 6 crore schemes to address the issue has failed drastically due to incomplete construction of a water tank and poor implementation. Many families rely on private tube wells, paying Rs 400 per month for limited access to water.

Villagers resorted to creating a network of pipelines to transport water from distant sources. Residents accused officials of corruption and negligence in facilitating welfare schemes. Social worker Dharmendra Chaturvedi said that villagers plan to unite for another major protest after the harvest season.

The current situation shows how unfortunate people living in some parts of the country is where one has to wait 20 years to get clean drinking water.
