Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A flood-like situation has developed in several cities, including Chitrakoot in Satna district, after the water levels of the Mandakini and Semrawal rivers rose following heavy rainfall on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

Around 100 families have been shifted to safer areas in Chitrakoot. Due to the rising river levels, Ramghat and Tulsighat have been inundated. Other areas, including Raigaon, Shri Shri Dham, Satna, and nearby localities, also faced the brunt of flooding.

SDM Majhgawan AP Dwivedi said, “Water level of the Mandakini River has risen, flooding many cities including Chitrakoot. Around 100 families have been affected. SDRF teams have been deployed for rescue operations. The traders have been advised against stockpiling groceries in shops.”

Alert has been issued for heavy rainfall/ thunderstorm with lightning and  gusty wind up to 30-40 Kmph in Sehore, Jhabua, Dhar, Indore, Ratlam, Ujjain, Dewas, Shivpuri, Sheopur, Singrauli, Sidhi, Dindori, Mandla, Balaghat, Bhopal, Vidisha, Raisen, Rajgarh, Narmadapuram, Betul, Harda, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani, Alirajpur, Shajapur, Agar, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Guna, Ashoknagar, Gwalior, Datia, Bhind, Morena districts.

Similarly, thunderstorm with lightning likely in  Rewa, Mauganj, Satna, Anuppur, Shahdol, Umaria, Katni, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Chhindwara, Seoni, Panna, Damoh, Sagar, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Maihar, Pandhurna.

As per meteorological department, the low-pressure area persists over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal and Bangladesh. It is likely to move slowly west- northwest wards across North Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal & Jharkhand during next 2 days.

The east-west trough runs from the upper air cyclonic circulation over south Rajasthan & adjoining north Gujarat to the cyclonic circulation associated with the low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts across Madhya Pradesh, north Chhattisgarh and north Odisha. Cumulative impact will trigger rain activities in MP in next 24 hours.

Bhopal Sindhi Colony, Saifia College areas witness waterlogging

Bhopal witnessed a light to moderate rains across the city on Sunday. Even a brief spell of light rainfall led to waterlogging in several areas including Sindhi Colony and the Saifia College locality.

Ongoing road construction work has further aggravated the problem, causing traffic disruptions in Sindhi Colony.
