Indore (Madhya Pradesh): After a prolonged dry spell throughout June, Indore finally received significant rainfall on Thursday, marking the highest precipitation of the month so far and pushing the city’s total rainfall beyond its monthly average quota.

The city recorded around 68.5 mm (approximately 2.5 inches) of rain on Thursday, with intermittent showers throughout the day followed by heavier rain during the night.

This pushed the total rainfall for June to 125.9 mm (around 5 inches), effectively fulfilling the average rainfall target for the month and with four days still remaining.

According to the Meteorological Centre at the Indore Airport, the western part of the city received the bulk of Thursday’s rain. Meanwhile, the Agriculture College weather station reported 48 mm of rainfall for the day, bringing their total to 100 mm so far this month.

This was the first time in June that Indore witnessed such substantial rainfall. The impact was not just on the ground, but also in the air: the maximum daytime temperature dropped to 30.7°C, 3°C below normal  while the minimum nighttime temperature stood at 22.4°C, a degree lower than the seasonal average.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rainfall on Friday as well. Cloud cover remained thick over the city since early morning, indicating the likelihood of further showers.
