Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly Kamal Nath wrote to the Governor of Madhya Pradesh on Saturday, urging him to convene the Monsoon session of the House on August 10 instead of August 9 in honour of the tribals of the state. Nath also demanded that August 9 be declared a holiday. Nath stated that August 9 was observed as ‘Word Indigenous Day’ and that MLAs—especially tribal MLAs—would be participating in the programmes organised on the day. In such a scenario, the MLAs will not be able to appear in the Assembly.
Nath said in his letter, “When the Congress was in the government, we declared August 9 as ‘Tribal Day’ and a holiday was observed on the day. Besides, a number of programmes were held to mark the day.” He added that, for a long time, people had been demanding that the day be declared a holiday.
The state Assembly’s Monsoon session has been convened from August 9 to August 12, according to the state Assembly secretariat.
