Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): An egg vendor in the Damoh district has been served a Rs 6-crore tax dues notice from the Central Excise and Customs Department (CBEC), which collects GST. All because the defaulter, a Delhi-based firm, is allegedly registered in the name of the aggrieved, Prince Suman.

According to the notice, a firm called Prince Enterprises was started in Ward 33 of Delhi in 2022. This company did business of about Rs 50 crore from 2022-23 to 2023-2024 by trading inleather, wood, and iron but did not pay GST,which added up to about Rs 6 crore.

Unfortunately, it was in the name of Prince Suman, a resident of Ward No. 14 of Patharia Nagar in Damoh.  Prince said he had never been to Delhi. In 2023, he was in Indore to work as a labourer but denies having shared his PAN or Aadhaar details with anyone then.

Since the CBEC department has asked Prince for bank statements and other supporting documents, the family is worried. Prince’s father Sridhar Suman, who runs a small grocery shop, has written to the Superintendent of Police to investigate the matter.

His lawyer Advocate Abhilash Khare said, “After getting the information, we have also corresponded with the Income Tax Department. A complaint has also been lodged with the police so that the conspiracy hatched against egg vendor Prince be exposed. Prince went to Indore to work as a labourer in 2023. He worked there for about a year. Right now, he is supporting his family by running the egg cart in Patharia Nagar.”
