Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Heavy rainfall paralysed normal life in Mandla district on Friday, lashing various areas continuously and triggering a landslide at Barela on NH-30, leading to a temporary closure of the Jabalpur-Mandla route.

According to flood control room officials, the landslide occurred in morning hours. “It is a hilly area, so such incidents are common,” said Hiralal Tiwari, in-charge of the flood control cell. “But the soil was cleared, and by noon, traffic movement returned to normal.”

Rain also wreaked havoc in Chakdehi and Narainganj, where electric poles and trees were uprooted. In Ghughri tehsil, 20 cattle were swept away by strong water currents. Several low-lying villages were inundated, causing damage to homes and forcing authorities to evacuate people to safer places like schools and Panchayat Bhavans.
