Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Four deaths and 25 cases have been reported due to swine flu in Madhya Pradesh so far. As per the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), from January, 25 isolated cases have been reported from Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain and other districts.

The authorities are investigating a single prominent H1N1-linked death of a 60-year-old Ujjain woman on August 19 after she was treated at an Indore private hospital alongside a rising number of seasonal viral and H1N1 cases across districts like Bhopal and Indore.

Madhya Pradesh health department has ordered a high-level investigation and issued a show-cause notice to a private hospital in Indore following the death of a woman from Ujjain who tested positive for H1N1 (swine flu).

The woman was undergoing treatment at the private facility. Against the advice of doctors, she was discharged on August 18 and returned to her home in Ujjain, where she died the next day, that is on August 19.

The monsoon months of June, July and August with rising humidity often witness an increase in viral infections, making timely reporting and surveillance critical for public health. Health authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
