Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): A massive fire broke out at the Gwalior Municipal Corporation headquarters in the Sambal branch on Saturday. Several crucial documents related to National Livelihood Mission were gutted. The primary cause of the fire is said to be a short circuit.

The affected section housed old records of the National Urban Livelihood Mission (DAY-NULM). Municipal employees called up the fire department, who reached there promptly. Two fire tenders were used to douse the blaze.

Investigation into the fire has begun. Notably this is the third fire at the Gwalior Municipal headquarter building in three years.

According to information, on Saturday, when a few municipal officers arrived at the building, they saw a cloud of black smoke emitting from the Gwalior Municipal Corporation headquarters. The employees then moved in to check where they found out that a blaze had engulfed an old record room. The affected section housed old records of the National Urban Livelihood Mission (DAY-NULM), including details of relief funds distributed to families of deceased beneficiaries, ranging from ₹2 lakh to ₹4 lakh.

As soon as the employees figured out about the blaze, they called up the fire department. The firefighters reached the spot with two fire tenders and controlled the blaze. Preliminary reports suggest that a short circuit in the electricals of the said room caused the fire. Municipal Commissioner Aman Vaishnav confirmed that a committee has been formed to investigate the incident.

Third fire incident at the same building

This is the third fire incident at the headquarters in three years. The lack of fire safety equipment in the Sambal branch has raised serious concerns. The municipal headquarters, responsible for issuing fire NOCs, has itself been plagued by recurring fires, sparking speculation about possible foul play.
