Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Crime Branch has registered a case against 104 schools, including 40 schools of the state capital, regarding the scholarship given to OBC and minority students. Most of the institutions were madrasas, said officials here on Tuesday.
The FIR was registered against 40 educational institutions of the city after the MP OBC and minority welfare department submitted a complaint to the police.
DCP Akhil Patel informed that primary investigation found that in Bhopal, 40 institutions (17 madrasas and 23 schools) had withdrawn the scholarship fund.
ADCP Shailendra Singh Chouhan added that the total scam of the 40 institutions was estimated to ₹57.78 lakh and the amount was distributed among 972 students during 2021-22.
The investigation also found that most of the schools and madrasas had permission to run classes till class 10 but the scholarship was distributed to class 11 and 12 students. He added that the Bhopal crime branch would investigate all 104 schools spread over the state.
Scholarships to non-existing students
The main financial irregularity is related to the amount given to the non-existing students. It means that the director of the school had siphoned the amount in the name of the students.
On the other hand, if the scholarship was taken by a student presenting fake claims, the student would have to pay back the scholarship amount and no legal action will be taken against him because it may harm his future.
