Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A dhaba owner in Chhatarpur district was reportedly forced to do sit-ups by a group of individuals over the name of his food outlet, which referenced a Hindu deity. His alleged offense was serving non-vegetarian dishes.
The incident took place in the Maharajpur police station limits on Tuesday and came to light after a video clip of the incident surfaced and was widely shared on social media.
Following the video's circulation on Thursday, the police filed a case against three individuals.
According to information, Gyanchand Chaurasia, who runs Krishna Dhaba, was compelled by a group of activists to perform 11 sit-ups as punishment and tender an apology.
In the video, the accused can be heard issuing threats to Chaurasia, demanding that he take down the signboard which reads "Krishna Dhaba Biryani Express."
Outrage over non-veg outlet bearing deity’s name
Sanju Mishra alias Bhura, a member of the Hindu Jodo Sangathan, defended the act, claiming that Chaurasia had been selling non-veg food under a name associated with a Hindu deity for nearly two years.
Sanju mishra said, "He had been warned twice to remove the board, but he didn’t comply. People often accuse us of targeting only Muslims, so this time we addressed the issue involving someone from our own community."
Police confirmed that the incident occurred on Tuesday and that an FIR has been lodged. "A thorough investigation is underway," a police official said.
