Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) on Friday sought a report from the Commissioner of Police within two weeks.

This follows a directive from the High Court's principal bench in Jabalpur, asking the Commission to take cognizance of the alleged humiliation of Bhopal’s gangster Zubair Maulana by police.

The order was passed after Zubair’s wife, Shameem Bano, filed a petition alleging violation of his religious rights and human dignity.

Advocate Prashant Chaurasia, appearing for petitioner Shameem Bano, argued that the police action amounted to serious infringement of Articles 21, 22, and 25 of the Constitution, which guarantee personal liberty and freedom of religion.

Police denied any misconduct

The police, however, denied any misconduct. They stated that Zubair had voluntarily altered his appearance to avoid recognition and arrest. According to police, he shaved his head and facial hair in an attempt to conceal his identity before being apprehended.
