The incident occurred in Jabalpur’s Hathital Colony late Wednesday night when the car caught fire during illegal gas refilling.
According to information, the incident happened in front of a house near the old RTO office in the Gorakhpur police station area.
According to eyewitnesses, flames erupted with a loud noise while gas was being filled in the car, causing panic in the area. The fire spread quickly, and the car was completely burnt within minutes.
People nearby immediately informed the police and fire department. Two fire engines reached the spot and managed to control the fire after a tough effort.
Firefighter Jagdish Singh said the flames were stopped just in time, otherwise, nearby gas cylinders could have exploded, leading to a much bigger accident.
When Gorakhpur police reached the scene, they found several gas cylinders and refilling equipment. Police have registered a case and started an investigation.
Locals said they had complained earlier about the illegal activity, but this was the first time such a dangerous incident happened.
Luckily, no one was injured, but the event raised serious questions about safety in the area.
Police are now trying to find out who was running the illegal refilling work and where the gas cylinders were coming from.
