Modern-Day ‘Shravan Kumars’ Carry Parents On Cot To MP's Koteshwar Dham, Fulfil Years-Old Promise | Nai Duniya

Balaghat (Madhya Pradesh): Two brothers carried their elderly parents on a cot for 20 kilometres to visit the famous Koteshwar Dham on the second Monday of the holy month of Shravan.

People praised them and called them ‘Modern-Day Shravan Kumar’ for their love and respect toward their parents.

According to information, the incident happened between Kosmara and Lanji in Balaghat district on Monday evening.

The two brothers, Bhimraj Netam and Anot Netam, along with their third brother Durgesh Netam, took their parents Jailal Netam and Sugan Bai Netam to the temple as part of the Kanwar Yatra.

Their uncle Jalam Netam and other family members also walked with them. Photos and videos of the family quickly spread on social media. Many people appreciated their efforts and compared them to Shravan Kumar (a character from the Ramayana who carried his blind parents on his shoulders for a pilgrimage).

A years old wish, fulfilled

Speaking to the media, Bhimraj Netam said that two years ago he had resolved that he would take his parents in a Kanwar and perform Jalabhishek of Lord Koteshwar. The Shiv temple had been built in the village, but the wish to take them to Koteshwar Dham remained unfulfilled.

This time in Sawan, all the brothers together vowed that this time they would complete this service and finally on Monday they fulfilled their resolution.

As they were covering the way with the chants of Bol Bam, everyone was looking at them with reverence. Many villagers came forward to offer them water, places to rest, and words of encouragement. And gave them the title of Shravan Kumar.

After reaching Koteshwar Dham, they duly performed Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva. After this, they took their parents back to Kosmara through the same route.
