BHOPAL: Video of an officer of Rewa MP Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC) accepting a bribe of Rs 11 lakh went viral on various social media platforms on Thursday. The alleged officer was in controversies earlier as well.
The man in question is said to be MPIDC executive director, Rewa, AP Singh. Sources in Rewa MPIDC office said that Dharmpal and Company based in Rohtak, Haryana has been given contract for development. The alleged money shown in video was bribe for the allotment of contract to the company.
AP Singh was also in news during his posting in Satna as CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of Janpad Panchayat, for corruption. Locals say that Singh flaunts his connection with senior BJP leaders and police officials.
Nevertheless, in a surprising development, a notarised affidavit appeared on social media platforms giving a clean chit to the officer. The person Shrikant Chaturvedi swears under oath that Singh had nothing to do with the money.
"I was introduced to Vinod Dangi of Dharampal and Company by AP Singh. I started supplying sand and other materials to the company. Later, the company started delaying my payments after which I approached AP Singh. It was after his intervention that the representative of Dharampal and Company came with cash and showed it on camera. The cash given to Singh was my pending payments on the company," wrote Shrikant Chaturvedi on affidavit.
Local officials who know about the deals believe that it was a damage control exercise by controversial officer AP Singh, who is an expert in managing such things.
Singh was transferred from Rewa but brought a stay order from court and is sitting pretty in that office.
