Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Raising grievances is going to be easier for the students of the institutions of higher learning as the Department of Higher Education has decided not only to make its social media account but also directed the colleges and universities to follow the suit. It will take less time for students’ complaints to be heard besides spreading relevant information about colleges and various courses.

All colleges and universities- private and government- will have accounts on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook. WhatsApp groups will also be formed at various levels for better exchange of information.

Grievances of students will reach the concerned authorities faster and action will be taken in a more transparent manner. The social media team formed by the department of higher education will keep a tab on all developments and try to resolve issues raised by students- be it related to scholarship or admission or any other trivial issue.

According to latest development, even all colleges and universities will have to appoint a nodal officer for social media cell in their institutions. The state nodal officer will coordinate with them.

Department of higher education (DHE) has appointed Brahmdeep Alune as the nodal officer for social media on Thursday.

Besides websites, now colleges can take help of social media platforms to inform students about various developments like dates of workshops, seminars, special courses, last date for scholarships or other such activities.

The advantage of being active on social media platforms will be that even the parents will remain aware about the developments happening in colleges.

A section of officials from the department believe that the experiment is expected to end as an image makeover exercise of the department. ‘All things look good in papers but it remains to be seen how they are run practically. I wish they do not end up controlling social media platforms,’ commented a principal of a private college, wishing anonymity.
