Bhopal: Rain eases but woes continue; schools flooded, roads submerged, drains clogged

Water logging has eased, however, the people continue to face problems as many roads and inner lanes are submerged and low lying areas are still flooded. Rainwater entering the houses had thrown life out of gear, especially in low-lying areas.

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Much to the respite, even as dark clouds hovered in the sky the city witnessed just light showers on Tuesday. However, the heavy rain the city recorded in the last two days has caused a lot of inconvenience to people. Water logging has eased, however, the people continue to face problems as many roads and inner lanes are submerged and low lying areas are still flooded. Rainwater entering the houses had thrown life out of gear, especially in low-lying areas.

In the localities visited by Free Press team including Arif Nagar, Gandhi Nagar and Shiv Nagar there was no normal life and normal traffic as yet. The situation was similar in several other localities in the city.

Pedestrians as well as motorists and specially those riding two-wheelers had a harrowing time. Along with the streets, houses and schools in low-lying areas were flooded with rainwater on Monday. Residents of these areas claimed their belongings were damned and they lost their domestic animals too.

Schools inundated

In several schools the students couldnít attend classes as ground was still flooded. One of schools- Government High School, Arif Nagar, had water on its premises making it difficult for students to enter the building.

The school staff said to Free Press, "This is the primary wing. We are adults. Still it is difficult for us to walk through the water. How'd a primary class student come inside? This water is coming out of the drains and it will cause vector-borne diseases too." "We requested the authorities several times. Still no action has been taken yet," they added further.

Water gushes in houses

People of Oriya Basti Colony, Shiv Nagar and Gandhi Nagar complained that rainwater entered their houses and the roads were submerged. Water logging in the area hampered daily chores and commuting, the children could not go to schools, they said.
