BHOPAL: A woman working as the warden of the girls’ hostel at National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIIFT), Bhopal, has lodged a complaint of sexual harassment against the director of the Institute Subroto Biswas under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act.
The woman who is an outsourced employee, in her complaint addressed to the Director General, NIFFT, Delhi said that Biswas behaved ‘inappropriately’ with her. He stared at her private parts and his non-verbal conduct was of a sexual nature. The complaint also says that the director gave a ‘wicked smile’ to her and tried to touch her. The director also insisted that the warden should stay inside the hostel, where the guest house in which Biswas was putting up was also located.
The complaint alleges that the director reserved two rooms in the girls’ hostel for his stay, which was against the rules and norms. The complaint says that on December 20 last year, the director shouted at her in front of other employees, alleging that the hostel was not properly maintained. She was demoted on the orders of the director due to which her salary was also reduced. She alleged that the demotion order was issued as she did not fulfil the illicit demands of the director.
The warden has demanded an enquiry against the director, his arrest and his transfer from the institution. Biswas had joined the institute in July last year.
