Bhopal: Research scholars who had gone to meet director of Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) on Monday, to press for their demands, came back empty handed as the director refused to meet them, said research scholars.

Now, the research scholars have decided to appeal to Lok Sabha MP Pragya Thakur for help, said research scholar Rajkumar Malviya.

Scholars say that they will agitate peacefully in the MANIT premises. For the last one and a half years, research scholars have been doing research work at home, away from the MANIT Institute in the corona period.

PhD scholars have been demanding MANIT management that PhD should be awarded based on research paper publication in Scopes Indexed Research Journal removing the obligation of paper publication in SCI/SCIE Research Journal of Q1, Q2 Standard. Unnecessary conditions of obtaining permission from MANIT management should also be removed before putting the paper in the research journal, demanded research scholars.

They also demand that as per government of India rules, SC/ST PhD scholars should be given 100% discount on tuition fees.

MANIT research scholars are facing research-related and other economic difficulties due to Covid-19 epidemic. On the contrary, the MANIT management is harassing PhD scholars mentally as well as financially by introducing unnecessary rules, said Malviya.
