Bhopal: Countdown for elections in 16 municipal corporations begins, liquor shops shut

Voting on July 6 in the first phase in 133 bodies including 11 Bhopal and Indore Municipal Corporations

BHOPAL (Madhya Pradesh): The election campaign in the cities will stop on Monday evening. Voting for the first phase of elections will be held on July 6 in a total of 133 urban bodies. These include a total of 11 municipal corporations including Bhopal, Indore, and Jabalpur-Gwalior. Polling teams will be sent to the polling booths from the morning of July 5.

According to model conduct, liquor shops will remain closed from Monday till the day of voting. Liquor sales will also stop 48 hours before polling.

Campaigning will continue till 5 pm on Monday. After this, campaigning in form of rallies will be banned and processions of leaders will not be able to be taken out. Therefore, on the last day of campaigning, all political parties including the BJP and Congress have plans to show their full strength.

There will be meetings of big leaders including CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and State Congress President Kamal Nath.

11 Municipal Corporations including Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Chhindwara, Ujjain, Sagar, Singrauli, and Satna will go for elections in the first phase of urban body polls.

Moreover, 36 Nagar Palikas and 86 Nagar Parishad too will go for voting on July 6.

Elections are being held in a total of 347 bodies. Voting will be held on 133 bodies in the first phase and 214 in the second phase. 19, 977 polling stations have been set up in the state. The duty of 87,937 employees has been deployed for voting. Elections will be conducted through EVMs. The polling time will be from 7 am to 5 pm.
