Bhopal: 350 villages lose Rabi crop to hailstorm, wind

Bhopal: Rabi crops of 350 villages spread across 13 districts have been damaged due to hailstorm and gusty wind which lashed Madhya Pradesh on Sunday afternoon. Of the total, 125 villages are located in Sehore district. Soybean crops have suffered heavy loss due to the heavy hail in Sehore district.

After the hailstorm, temperatures have decreased across the state.  Agriculture director Mohanlal said, “Hailstorm damaged rabi crops but more damage is due to gusty wind, which bent the standing crops like wheat in the affected districts.  Survey will be held to assess the damage. The crops may revive if the weather gets clear soon.” According to agriculture department, hail-hit districts are Bhopal, Hoshangabad, Sehore, Vidisha, Raisen, Betul, Harda, Dewas, Narsingpur, Guna, Rajgarh, Morena, Shivpuri, Sheopur, Umaria and Panna.

The meteorological department said that the hail storm is likely to occur at isolated places in Hoshangabad, Jabalpur, Shahdol, Bhopal, Rewa, Sagar, Gwalior-Chambal, Narmadapuram divisions in the next 24 hours. Rain and thundershower are likely to occur at several places in Hoshangabad, Jabalpur Shahdol, Chambal, Sagar, Gwalior, Rewa divisions.
