Guna (Madhya Pradesh): An ambulance meant for saving lives was found transporting muskmelons instead of patients in Madhya Pradsh's Guna. The incident came to light on Thursday when locals recorded a video of the ambulance unloading muskmelons at a vegetable market.
The ambulance, reportedly from Uttar Pradesh, bore no number plate but had “Uttar Pradesh Government” clearly marked on its body. To conceal its identity, a yellow tarpaulin was partially covering it. Witnesses were left stunned as they saw the vehicle, expected to carry critical patients, being used for commercial purposes instead.

When the footage of the incident went viral, public outrage grew, highlighting concerns about the frequent misuse of government ambulances. This is not the first such case in Guna—previous incidents have already exposed critical lapses in the emergency medical transport system. Just recently, a child reportedly died due to the unavailability of an ambulance, and another case involved a minor losing their life after the oxygen supply in an ambulance ran out.
Incident raises critical questions
Despite clear evidence of misuse, neither the police nor the administration has taken any action so far. This raises pressing questions—how did an unregistered ambulance enter Madhya Pradesh? Why was it allowed to operate without for private use?
