Ratlam (Madhya Pradesh): A 47-year-old lineman died after a speeding car hit him and another man on the Mhow-Neemuch Highway near Namli on Sunday.

The accident occurred on Sunday night. The two men were standing near a dead camel that was lying on the road between the railway overbridge and Panched Phanta.

Vikram Jat, a resident of Ghatwas village, worked with the electricity department. The other victim, 26-year-old Bablu Jaiswal, a grocery shop owner from Palduna village, was seriously injured.

He was first taken to a medical college and later referred to Indore. His family then shifted him to Vadodara, Gujarat, for further treatment.

People had gathered to see the dead camel, and barricades were placed around it for safety. Despite this, a fast-moving car (number MP-43/CB-2261) hit the two men.

Eyewitnesses said Bablu was thrown nearly 25 feet away due to the impact. The car then crashed onto a road divider and was damaged. Its airbags opened, which helped protect the passengers. It is not yet clear how many people were inside the car.

The police have seized the vehicle and are searching for the driver. Sub-Inspector K.K. Patel said the cause of the camel’s death is still unknown.

Vikram Jat’s body was handed over to his family after the post-mortem on Monday. An investigation is ongoing.
