Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): A 40-year-old man was duped of ₹1.41 lakh in a case of cyber fraud after he tried to get a lost receipt from an e-wallet app in Jabalpur on Thursday.

According to information, Shaitan Singh, a 40-year-old resident of Mer village in Dhimarkheda, is currently staying in Devendra Hostel at Rani Durgavati University for his studies. Some time ago, he had purchased digital gold worth ₹20,000 through an e-wallet app on his mobile phone.

Unfortunately, the receipt of the transaction was lost, and without it, he was unable to confirm his investment or request a refund.

To get the receipt again, Singh searched for the customer care number of the e-wallet app on Google. However, the number he found was fake and part of a scam.

When he called the number, the person on the other side gave him three more mobile numbers, claiming they were for help.

Singh called one of those numbers, and the person claimed to be a company representative. He asked the student to follow certain steps on his phone, promising that the refund would be credited to his e-wallet account after the process.

Without suspecting anything, Singh followed the instructions. But soon after, he was shocked to see that ₹1.41 lakh had been withdrawn from his bank account.

After the fraud, he rushed to the Civil Lines police station and filed a complaint.

Police have registered the case under cyber crime and started an investigation.
