Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): Jabalpur Excise Department has caught illegal liquor from a BJP leader’s car on Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off from an informer, officials caught a car carrying illegal liquor Pauri Majhauli road. During the investigation, 20 boxes of illegal liquor were found in the vehicle.
According to information the car belonged to BJP Yuva Morcha's office minister Prashant Rai. The Excise Department arrested Prashant Rai on the spot. According to officials, the estimated value of the seized liquor is around ₹5 lakh.
The department confirmed that strict checking was being carried out in the area due to continuous complaints of illegal liquor smuggling. During this drive, Prashant Rai's vehicle was stopped and checked. After finding the liquor, legal action was initiated immediately.
This incident has caused a stir in local political circles as Prashant Rai holds a position in the BJP Yuva Morcha. The Excise Department said further investigation is underway to find out where this liquor was being supplied and if more people are involved.
The seized car and liquor have been taken into custody by the department. Officials assured that such actions will continue against illegal liquor trade in the region.
