Ashok Leyland, part of the Hinduja Group, has officially opened a new bus manufacturing facility near Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh. The plant was inaugurated by Shri Nara Lokesh, Minister for Information Technology, Electronics and Communications, and Human Resource Development, Government of Andhra Pradesh. This new facility marks an important step in Ashok Leyland’s efforts to expand its production capacity and meet rising demand in the bus segment.

During the inauguration event, Ashok Leyland and the Hinduja Group handed over the keys of the Switch electric double-decker bus to the Andhra Pradesh government. Minister Nara Lokesh accepted the keys, highlighting a joint focus on advancing eco-friendly public transport in the state. The ceremony was attended by key government leaders including Transport Minister M Ram Prasad Reddy, Industries Minister T. G. Bharath, MP V. Balashowry, and MLA Y Venkata Roy. From the Hinduja Group, Chairman Ashok P. Hinduja and President of Alternative Energy Shri Shom Ashok Hinduja were present, along with several dealers, customers, and partners.

Ashok Leyland’s newly opened manufacturing facility at Malavalli, located about 40 km from Vijayawada, is spread over 75 acres and is equipped with modern production technology to ensure global quality standards. The plant will produce a full range of Ashok Leyland’s diesel buses as well as electric buses under Switch Mobility. With an annual production capacity of 4,800 buses, the facility also houses a dedicated Learning Centre called Nalanda and a Service Training Centre to enhance skill development. Aimed at promoting green practices, the plant features rooftop solar panels, energy-efficient LED lighting, battery-operated vehicles for internal transport, water conservation systems, and zero liquid discharge, reinforcing its focus on sustainability and local employment.

Dheeraj G. Hinduja, Chairman of Ashok Leyland, expressed enthusiasm about expanding the company’s presence in Andhra Pradesh, crediting the state’s forward-looking industrial policy under Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. He highlighted the Hinduja Group’s long-standing association with the region and noted that the new facility marks a fresh chapter in their journey. He also reaffirmed the Group’s commitment to supporting economic development in the state by creating jobs and contributing to regional growth.
