BHOPAL: The massive fire that broke out in a factory at Govindpura industrial area on Wednesday night has damaged 60 transformers, cranes, autos, oil containers and other goods. Though the exact loss is yet to be assessed, the owner said it would be more than Rs 3 crore.

The fire broke out around 10 pm on Tuesday and was brought under control by 3 am. According to information, 21 fire tenders were deployed at the scene to douse the raging flame. Fire tenders from Fatehgar, Bairagarh, Chhola, Govindprua, ISBT, Pul Bogda, Kolar and BHEL fire stations were pressed into the action.

Police teams from nearby police stations were also deployed at the site. According to police, the fire broke out in Awadh transformer factory and a SU transformer factory was also caught in the flames. Several blasts were also reported from the site.

Neeraj Shukla, one of the owners of the company, said the loss in one of the factories where only transformers and oil were kept is more than Rs 2.5 crore. Loss in other unit is yet to be assessed, he said.

The cause of fire is said to be short circuit and police are probing the incident after registering case.

In another incident, a locked house caught fire on Tuesday night. The house is located at Ghoda Nakkhas under Hanumanganj police station. The fire broke out around 9 pm when the owners were away.

Naresh Jain, whose mother-in-law owns the house, said he lives in Shaheed Nagar and there was nobody in the house when the fire broke out.

The fire brigade doused the flames after the lock was broken. Former local corproator Shahwar Mansoori said the owner was informed but he was unable to reach the spot therefore, he broke open the lock and made way for firemen inside.
