New York: Wesley LePatner, a top executive at global investment firm Blackstone, was among the four people killed on Monday evening when a gunman opened fire at a Manhattan high-rise in New York City. She was 43 years old, according to The Real Deal.

The corporate office tower where the shooting took place is the headquarters of both Blackstone and the National Football League (NFL), among other firms.

Who Was Wesley LePatner?

LePatner was a wife and mother to two children. She was the CEO of Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust, or BREIT, an evergreen real estate fund and the global head of Core+ Real Estate for the $1.2 trillion company, according to Hindustan Times.

She joined Blackstone in 2014 and rose up the ranks to lead one of the firm’s largest divisions.

Earlier, LePatner worked for Goldman Sachs for more than a decade, according to her LinkedIn profile. She graduated from the prestigious Yale University and was a board member of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

At Blackstone, LePatner played a key role in expanding the firm’s Core+ real estate strategy, which consists of investments in rental housing, data centres, and logistics assets. Earlier this year, she was appointed CEO of BREIT, a real estate investment trust.

Blackstone condoles Wesley LePatner's Death

Grieving the loss of their employee, Blackstone said in a statement,"We are heartbroken to share that our colleague, Wesley LePatner, was among those who lost their lives in the tragic incident at 345 Park Avenue. Words cannot express the devastation we feel."

About The Shooting

The suspect was identified as Shane Tamura, of Nevada, two people briefed on the investigation told the AP. Sources said he fatally shot himself, reported news agency PTI.

Law enforcement officials located identification on Tamura's body, including a concealed carry permit from Las Vegas, the people said. The people were not authorized to discuss details of an ongoing investigation and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity.
