Colorado: At least six people were reportedly injured on Sunday (local time) after a man with a makeshift flamethrower attacked a group that had assembled to raise attention for Israeli hostages in Gaza in Colorado in the United States. The suspected, identified as 45-year-old Mohamed Sabry Soliman, was arrested by the police.

Soliman also yelled "End Zionists!" and "Free Palestine" while throwing bottles filled with flammable liquid towards the group. The incident took place at the Pearl Street outdoor mall in Boulder. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) termed it a terrorist attack.

Who Is Mohamed Sabry Soliman?

Soliman is reportedly a foreign national who overstayed his visa. He arrived in the United States on a B-2 visa in August 2022, reported News18. According to several media reports, Soliman is an Egyptian native. However, there is no official confirmation in this regard.

The victims were aged between 67 and 88. They reportedly sustained minor to severe burn injuries. “As a result of these preliminary facts, it is clear that this is a targeted act of violence and the FBI is investigating this as an act of terrorism,” FBI Denver Field Office special agent Mark Michalek said, as reported by The Times of India.

Several videos of the attack also surfaced online.

There is an increase in antisemitic incidents across the United States. Last week, two Israeli EMbassy staffers were shot dead near the Jewish Museum in Washington DC, close to the FBI’s Washington Field Office by a man named Elias Rodriguez. He yelled, "Free, free Palestine" after the arrest. The two Israeli Embassy staffers, Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, who died in the firing incident were about to get engaged, said Israeli Ambassador to the US Yechiel Leiter.
