Adelaide: A 23-year-old Indian-origin man, Charanpreet Singh, has become the latest victim in a disturbing string of racially motivated assaults against Indians in foreign countries.

Singh was brutally attacked in Adelaide, Australia, over what began as a car parking dispute, but quickly turned into a hate crime. He was beaten unconscious and left on the roadside after being racially abused by a group of unidentified men.

A disturbing video of the incident also surfaced on social media:

Who Is Charanpreet Singh?

Charanpreet Singh is a young Indian student currently living in Australia. On Saturday night (July 19), near Kintore Avenue in central Adelaide, Singh was sitting in his car when a group of strangers approached him. Without warning, they began hurling racist slurs.

“They just said ‘f*** off, Indian’, and after that they just started punching,” Singh told 9News from his hospital bed. “I tried to fight back, but they beat me until I was unconscious," he added.

He sustained serious injuries, including brain trauma and multiple facial fractures, and was rushed to hospital where he remained under observation overnight. Despite his trauma, Singh shared a heartbreaking account and said, “Things like this, when they happen, it makes you feel like you should go back... You can change anything in your body, but you can’t change the colours.”

One Arrested, Others Still at Large

As per the report, South Australia Police have arrested a 20-year-old man from Enfield in connection with the assault and charged him with causing harm. The other attackers managed to flee and remain unidentified. Authorities are now reviewing the CCTV footage.

The attack has sparked outrage within Adelaide’s Indian community and among international students. South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas condemned the incident, calling it “completely unwelcome” and “not consistent with where the majority of our community are at,” as quoted by 9News.
