Boston: Indian-origin CEO and co-founder of Boston-based clean-tech firm, (a business that develops and implements technologies and practices aimed at improving environmental sustainability) Gradiant, Anurag Bajpayee, was arrested in connection with a high-profile brothel scandal investigation near Harvard University. Gradiant is a top wastewater treatment firm in the United States.

Prosecutors have alleged that Bajpayee belonged to an exclusive group of clients, consisting of doctors, lawyers, public officials, and government contractors.

Investigations revealed that these men allegedly paid as much as $600 hourly for meetings with mostly Asian women, who were purportedly ensnared in sex trafficking.

Anurag was arrested during a sting operation earlier in the year. He is alleged to have paid money for sex at the high-end brothel several times.

Bajpayee was born in India. Bajpayee has emerged as a prominent figure in the cleantech industry, steering Gradiant from its origins as a Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) spinout in 2013 to a global leader valued at over USD one billion.

He holds a PhD in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), focusing on industrial dealination and water treatment.

His LinkedIn profile states that he completed his schooling at La Martiniere College, Lucknow.

Bajpayee's work has been appreciated by' Scientific America'n, which named his innovation among the “Top 10 World-Changing Ideas” for its contribution to global water sustainability.

Bajpayee's Company's Stand On The Scandal

Despite demands for his resignation from some employees, his company, Gradiant, stood by him, issuing a statement expressing confidence in the justice system and affirming its commitment to its mission.

The company in a statement said, "We believe in the justice system and are confident that this will resolve favorably in due course. Unrelated to this, Gradiant will continue to pursue excellence in technological innovation and to strive towards our mission to ensure clean water for all society."
