'US Ready To Support Ukraine', Zelensky Says After Call With Donald Trump

"I told my colleagues, the U.S. president and our European friends, that Putin definitely does not want peace. He wants the occupation of our country. And we all really understand that. Putin will not be able to deceive anyone. We need further pressure for peace. Not only American, but also European sanctions," Zelenskyy said after the call.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday said the US is "ready to support us" following a call with US President Donald Trump and European leaders. The call comes ahead of a Trump-Putin summit on Friday in Alaska.

Zelenskyy said he told the US president and European leaders that Putin is "bluffing" on pursuing peace.

"We hope that the central topic of the meeting will be a ceasefire," Zelensky said, speaking on the Trump-Putin summit on Friday in Alaska.

“We had a very good call,” Trump said speaking about the virtual meeting with Zelensky and European leaders today.

Trump said if his meeting on Friday with the Russian President goes well, he’d like to “immediately” arrange a second meeting and include Zelensky.

French President Emmanuel Macron said that Donald Trump told European leaders that he would urge Vladimir Putin to agree to a ceasefire.

This will be Putin's first visit to the United States since 2015, when he met former President Barack Obama.

Zelenskyy Dials PM Modi

Zelenskyy on Monday dialed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, "I am grateful to the Prime Minister for his warm words of support for our people," Zelensky said in a statement after the call on micro-blogging website X.

Earlier last week, India welcomed the US-Russia meeting on 15th August in Alaska and endorsed the upcoming summit describing it as a possible breakthrough in ending the war in Ukraine.
